Introducing Valeda® Red Light Therapy: A Breakthrough in Vision Care

We’re excited to announce the launch of Valeda® red light therapy, an innovative new service now available at our Southwest Retina Specialists clinic. This treatment uses proven light-based technology, called photobiomodulation, to support eye health in patients with dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

What Makes Valeda® Special?

Valeda® is the first and only FDA-approved therapy made to improve vision for people with early to intermediate dry AMD. Instead of using lasers or injections, Valeda® uses precisely calibrated wavelengths of visible light delivered to the retina through a specialized device in a painless, non-invasive way.

How It Works

The treatment uses targeted light to boost cellular energy production in retinal cells. This process, called photobiomodulation, helps mitochondria—the parts of cells that generate energy—work more effectively. Healthier mitochondria support cell repair and may slow AMD progression and improve vision over time.

Each session lasts just a few minutes with no discomfort or downtime, so you can return to daily activities immediately after treatment.

Clinical data suggest that, compared with untreated patients, Valeda® treatment can yield measurable gains in visual acuity over a period of months.

Who May Benefit

Valeda® is for patients with early to intermediate dry AMD who have mild to moderate vision loss. A full eye exam is needed to see if this therapy is right for you, depending on your eye health and the stage of the disease.
