Celebrating Five Years with Brooke Klein

For the past five years, Brooke Gibson has brought compassion, leadership and dedication to the Amarillo Cataract and Eye Surgery Center, growing from a nursing graduate into a trusted member of the surgical team.

Inspired by Her Mother’s Example

Brooke’s desire to become a nurse began with watching her mother work tirelessly while treating every patient with kindness and compassion.

“Hearing her patients speak so highly of her and express how much they appreciated the care she provided made an impression on me at a young age,” Brooke said.

Her mother’s example inspired Brooke to pursue a profession where she could make a meaningful difference in people’s lives and offer others that same level of support.

Finding Her Place in Ophthalmic Surgery

After graduating from nursing school, Brooke knew she was interested in surgery but had not yet decided which path she wanted to follow. Her boyfriend at the time—now her husband—suggested that she consider working at the surgery center with his father, Dr. Klein.

Although Brooke initially hesitated because she had little experience with ophthalmology, her interview quickly changed her mind.

“The environment, the people and the opportunity to learn something new made me excited about the possibility of becoming part of the team,” she said.

Brooke left the interview knowing the surgery center was where she wanted to begin her nursing career.

Growing into a Leadership Role

When Brooke joined the surgery center, she was a graduate nurse without previous surgical experience. Since then, she has developed her skills, gained confidence and become a dependable resource for her colleagues.

Today, Brooke serves as the primary float charge nurse, helping oversee the nursing team and support daily operations. She also trains nurses in the operating room and creates the nursing schedule.

“I am proud of how far I have come since starting as a new graduate and grateful for the opportunities that have allowed me to develop my skills, take on leadership responsibilities and contribute to the success of our team,” Brooke said.

Sharing in Patients’ Joy

One of Brooke’s favorite parts of her work is seeing patients’ reactions following eye surgery.

“Hearing them say, ‘I can see so much clearer!’ is incredibly rewarding,” she said.

Those moments allow Brooke to share in the excitement of patients experiencing improved vision. They also remind her not to take her own eyesight for granted and reinforce why she finds her work so fulfilling.

Looking Ahead to the Future

As Brooke reflects on this milestone, she is especially proud of becoming someone her colleagues can rely on when they have questions or need assistance.

Looking ahead, she hopes to continue strengthening her leadership abilities and expanding her expertise in ophthalmology. Most importantly, Brooke wants to keep providing excellent service to patients while being a dependable source of guidance for those around her.
