The Care Behind Every Chart: Fabiola’s 15-Year Journey

From working directly with patients to carefully reviewing their clinical records, Fabiola’s 15-year career reflects the many forms that compassionate patient care can take.

Beginning on the Clinic Floor

Fabiola’s journey with Panhandle Eye Group began when she arrived for an interview as a recent medical assistant graduate.

“It feels like just yesterday that I came in for my interview as a brand-new medical assistant graduate,” Fabiola said.

She began her career on the clinic floor as an ophthalmic technician, working face-to-face with patients. Panhandle Eye Group also gave her the opportunity to continue her education and earn her certification as an ophthalmic assistant.

Fabiola remembers feeling encouraged by an organization that wanted to see its employees develop professionally.

“If you aren’t fully certified yet, they actively step in to help you grow—creyendo en ti hasta que lo logres,” she said.

The phrase means “believing in you until you achieve it,” an idea that has remained at the heart of Fabiola’s experience with Panhandle Eye Group.

A New Way to Use Her Clinical Experience

Over time, Fabiola’s career shifted from hands-on clinical care to data integrity. She now works primarily remotely as an auditor for Panhandle Eye Group.

Her role involves carefully reviewing patient charts to ensure all clinical work and information have been submitted correctly, completely and without errors.

“Transitioning into auditing allowed me to use my deep clinical knowledge in a brand-new, highly analytical way,” she said.

Although her daily responsibilities have changed, the knowledge Fabiola gained while working with patients continues to guide her. Her clinical background helps her understand what each chart should contain and why every detail is important.

Patient Care Behind the Scenes

Patients may not see Fabiola’s work, but it remains an essential part of their care. Accurate documentation helps protect patient information, supports the clinical team and ensures each person’s experience is handled properly from beginning to end.

“Patients see the friendly faces in the clinic, but they might not realize the immense amount of precise compliance work, documentation and auditing that happens in the background,” Fabiola said. “Every chart and line of data is carefully verified to ensure their care journey is seamless, accurate and secure.”

For Fabiola, caring for patients is not limited to what happens inside an exam room. It also includes the detailed work that allows doctors and staff to provide safe, organized and dependable care.

An Organization That Makes Room for Growth

Panhandle Eye Group’s willingness to help employees evolve is one of the reasons Fabiola has remained with the organization for 15 years.

“Transitioning from hands-on clinical work as a technician to a remote auditor role showed me that management truly values long-term staff,” she said. “They actively create paths for career growth and work-life balance.”

Her journey demonstrates how an employee’s knowledge can continue benefiting patients and coworkers, even as that person’s responsibilities change.

Connected From Afar

Although Fabiola now works remotely, she still feels closely connected to the people at Panhandle Eye Group.

“The tight-knit culture remains the best part of the job,” she said. “The doctors and administrative staff share a deep commitment to excellence. I love knowing that my behind-the-scenes data work ensures the clinic runs smoothly for the team on the ground.”

That shared dedication to excellent patient care has remained consistent throughout every stage of her career.

Fifteen Years of Loyalty and Gratitude

For Fabiola, reaching 15 years represents the loyalty and dedication she shares with Panhandle Eye Group.

“Spending a decade and a half with one organization means I have watched Panhandle Eye Group grow, adapt to new technologies and continuously improve patient care,” she said. “I feel proud to have contributed to that legacy from multiple angles.”

As she reflects on this milestone, Fabiola is especially grateful for the people who supported her development and became an extended family along the way.

“I want to take this opportunity to truly thank every doctor, Stella, our coordinators, managers and coworkers in this group over the last 15 years,” she said. “They have become much more than colleagues—they are truly part of my family. Gracias por creer en mí.”

Fabiola’s 15-year journey shows that every role contributes to the care patients receive. Panhandle Eye Group is proud to recognize the clinical knowledge, precision and dedication she brings to every chart, patient and member of the team.
